IBM華生超級電腦新任務：協助對抗腦癌

曾因擊敗知名電視益智節目「Jeopardy!」冠軍而大出風頭的國際商業機器公司 (IBM)華生超級電腦 (Watson supercomputer)，19日角色大轉變，投入癌症研究。IBM宣布，華生雲端電腦系統將與紐約基因組中心 (New York Genome Center)合作，對抗腦癌，研發治療多型性神經膠母細胞瘤 (glioblastoma)的方法，此症是美國成年人最常見的腦癌。

紐約基因組中心是一個非營利學術、醫學及工業界人士財團，它將與IBM的華生超級電腦聯手進行臨床試驗，由該中心為多型性神經膠母細胞瘤患者做DNA排序，然後用華生把這些數據與臨床資訊結合，以協助決定每一患者的最佳治療方法。

多型性神經膠母細胞瘤是一種惡性進展極快的癌症，平均存活率只有一年到一年零兩個月，每年約有1萬3000人因這種癌症死亡。
