寶鹼前CEO 被提名掌退軍部

一批批從伊拉克、阿富汗戰場退役的美國軍人即將返鄉，另外退伍軍人部近來爆發退伍老兵就診延誤弊端。就在這個時候，官員透露歐巴馬總統定今日提名寶鹼公司 (P&G)前執行長麥唐納為退伍軍人事務部長，顯示歐巴馬希望任用豐富管理經驗的人因應嚴峻挑戰。

退伍軍人部近來發生許多退伍老兵就診延誤，部分人因預約等候時間太久而過世，導致曾任四星將軍的前部長新關 (Eric Shinseki)在壓力下被迫辭職。

此外，伊拉克和阿富汗戰爭之後大批軍人返國，退伍軍人部將面臨更大壓力，白宮決心整頓退伍軍人醫療系統，因此認為有企管經驗的麥唐納是合適人選。麥唐納也有從軍經歷，他以優異成績畢業於西點軍校，擔任過陸軍上尉。

退伍軍人部的稽核報告說，5萬7000多個退伍軍人第一次預約看病至少需要三個月，6萬4000個退伍軍人過去十年一直沒有約上看病。
