台灣動物園暨水族館協會監事洪明仕說，麥哲倫企鵝又稱為麥氏環企鵝，原棲息地在南美洲南端的溫帶海岸地帶，以魚、蝦為食，天敵則是海豹及殺人鯨等。
麥哲倫企鵝喜歡在地上挖洞築巢，並利用海濱的植物協助隱藏；每次約生2顆蛋，孵化期為38至43天，雄企鵝會與母企鵝輪流照顧小企鵝（圖）。文╱邱俊吉•圖╱美聯社

麥哲倫企鵝小檔案

★學名：Spheniscus magellanicus
★英文名：Magellanic penguin
★體形：身高約61~76公分，體重約2.7~6.5公斤
★特徵：頭部以黑色為主，腹白背黑，胸前有類似白色領巾的斑紋；眼睛為粉紅色
★分布：南美洲南端的智利、阿根廷等國
