全市人口數277萬多人，65歲以上的人口32萬5811人，占11.73%；今年敬老禮金發送，65歲到79歲每人1000元，80歲到89歲每人1500元，90歲到99歲每人5000元，百歲人瑞每位1萬元。張乃千表示，今年百歲人瑞有188位，年齡最高的是住在旗山的一位109歲阿嬤。

今年重陽節系列活動共有21項，張乃千說，其中「庄頭藝穗節-庄頭歌仔戲」會在本月和10間陸續舉辦，預計推出12場，分在不同地區舉辦，免費觀賞；另外，10月4日下午預計在長青中心舉辦「戲棚下、看大戲」，讓老人家輕鬆一下。

除了敬老活動，還有敬老優惠：免費搭乘捷運、電影館購票優惠、高雄物產館與及驛站食堂、VASIR肉燥飯店等消費優惠、旗津陽明高雄海洋探索館及美濃客家文物館免費入館、免費搭乘愛之船、動物園入園及陪伴者一人免費、高美館錯覺藝術大師展覽敬老票140元優惠、購買庇護商品滿額送等。
