即便「雙槍」哈登(James Harden)、柯瑞(Stephen Curry)上半場得分皆「掛蛋」，不過自第三節開始，美國男籃拿出招牌閃電攻勢，不斷以快速球風反擊，加上掌握籃板優勢，最終43分之差擊退斯洛維尼亞晉級4強。柯瑞賽後便表示，「任何一支球隊，想要全場40分鐘都跟著我們狂奔，絕對是件艱困的事情。」

下半場團隊命中率高達64%，3、4兩節分別拿下37與33分，美國男籃面對前兩節緊追不捨的斯洛維尼亞，最終仍是大比分贏球挺進4強。

此戰贏球關鍵一如賽前外界所預期，「籃板」成為雙方勝負最大分野，全場籃板數美國以「54比38」佔盡優勢，掌握禁區優勢，美國招牌的快速反擊也得以流暢發揮，包括哈登與湯普森(Klay Thompson)也得以展現外圍火砲能力。

柯瑞表示，「我和哈登都知道自己上半場沒投進任何一球，但整體防守還是相當不錯，我們都堅信，只要持續給與對手壓力，事情必定會有所不同。」

哈登第三節獨拿12分，加上湯普森攻下全場最高20分表現，順利幫助「夢幻隊」持續保持不敗之身向前邁進。

「半獸人」法瑞德(Kenneth Faried)拿下14分、10籃板，戴維斯(Anthony Davis)也貢獻13分、11籃板，兩人構築的美國隊禁區屏障，至今看來仍是有模有樣。

另外先前陷入小低潮的「飆風玫瑰」羅斯(Derrick Rose)，此戰總算找回手感，全場12分、3籃板、5助攻進帳。
