八德警分局高明派出所員警吳照文是排灣族原住民，從小立志從警，期間歷經3次敗北，母親為了籌措報名費，變賣金戒指，為了不讓父母失望，下定決心苦讀，終於考取警職。

吳照文小時候經常從鄰居口中聽到父親追捕歹徒、辦案等事蹟，讓他對父親滿是崇拜。吳照文在校成績優異，父親把繼承警職的希望寄託在他身上，高中畢業後，兩次報考警校，卻都敗北。

為了分擔家計，吳照文先到南美洲跑船，回家鄉後，感於跑船工作必須跟家人長時間分離，父母親身體狀況越來越差，讓他再度興起報考警職念頭。

第4次報考時，因繳不出報名費，母親變賣戴了20多年的金戒指，讓他覺得好愧疚，自知不能再讓他們失望，「完全斷絕外界，閉關苦讀」。

28歲時，吳照文終於考上，收到錄取通知單時，父親抱著他說：「終於可以交棒了」，家裡樂得辦桌請客。

吳照文迄今從警23年，回屏東春日鄉看望家人，父子從警在排灣族部落傳為佳話。
