匹茲堡海盜後援投手小霍滋康(John Holdzkom)，曾經於2012年來台打過WBC資格賽，當時慘被中華打者修理，但如今他靠著40人擴編名單上大聯盟，並在面對小熊的比賽中投出生涯首次救援成功。

小霍滋康在2012年來台參與WBC資格賽，當時代表紐西蘭隊與中華在冠軍戰中遭遇，小霍滋康主投3.1局被敲出3支安打失掉4分，還有3次保送、2次三振吞下敗投。

當時他只有小聯盟高階1A，去年還在獨立聯盟打球，不過今年從獨立聯盟開始後，季中海盜看上小霍滋康的潛力，讓小霍滋康在2A、3A之間磨練，沒想到小霍滋康很爭氣，3A出賽18場全都是後援登場，投出2勝0敗2.49防禦率，而他在21.2局投出27次三振，三振能力相當出色。

美國時間9月2日面對紅雀比賽中，小霍滋康首度登板，主投1局送出3次三振，最快球速可以達到97英哩，首次登上大聯盟就有如此出色表現，也讓原本牛棚實力就相當堅強的海盜，更增添戰力。

海盜今日面對小熊，這是昨日未打完的比賽，雙方9局打完戰成3:3平手，11局上海盜靠著今年大放異彩的哈里森(Josh Harrison)敲出超前比分的安打，取得5:3領先，11局下小霍滋康上場救援1局，12球有7個好球，送出2次三振，成功拿下個人在大聯盟首個救援成功，也替自己的棒球追夢之路有了好的起點。
