一直有媒體傳聞Google已經準備好放棄使用Nexus這個品牌，在傳聞的Nexus 6智慧手機的命運尚未有定論之際，網路已出現一款Nexus新平板電腦的蹤跡。

《Android Police》報導指稱，Google (GOOG-US) 可能與HTC合作推出一款傳聞已久的8.9吋新平板電腦，核心代碼是Volantis或Flounder，內部指稱這就是Nexus 9。該報導除了登出外流的照片，也略略介紹規格、功能和售價。

該報導幾乎證實了該設備，以及自今年第一季以來多處消息來源指稱的Volantis說法。根據報導，該平板電腦(俗稱Nexus 9)將配備8.9吋顯示器，解析度2048 x 1440 ，畫素密度高達281ppi，搭載Nvidia Logan 64位元處理器 (即Tegra K1)，2GB RAM。

規格表上的資訊還包括：儲存空間16/32GB、主要相機8MP OIS、前置相機3MP、鋁製無縫邊框、立體正面揚聲器，WiFi版418克、LTE版427克，尺寸為8.91 x 5.98 x 0.31英吋。

然而，外流出來的圖片和規格卻不相符，圖片中的設備看起來不像鋁製，所以這個設備照片可能是早期的模型機，但至少現在可以一窺究竟。

至於售價，該報導進一步指稱，該款平板電腦預計16GB版本售價399美元，而32GB版本則要價 499美元，具備LTE連線功能的版本可能售價不同，該報導推測價格可能略高於600美元。
