Radiant Opto-Electronics sees 18.7% sequential drop in May BLU shipments

Taiwan-based BLU (backlight unit) maker Radiant Opto-Electronics shipped 6.228 million units in May, decreasing on month by 18.7%, according to the company.
BLU shipments in May mainly included 5.607 million units used in notebooks, shrinking on month by 19.7%, 580,000 units used in LCD monitors, slipping 6.8%, and 23,000 units used in LCD TVs, down 42.5%.
Radiant will for the first time begin to ship BLUs for use in smartphones and will ship TV BLUs to China-based vendor Xiaomi Technology in the second half of 2014.
Radiant on June 5 reported consolidated revenues of NT$2.960 billion (US$98.2 million) for May, dipping 17.84% on month and 28.47% on year, and NT$19.176 billion for January-May, slipping on year by 27.19%.
