兩度肩傷開刀，「神之左手」桑塔納(Johan Santana)剛加盟金鶯隊時球速最快球速只剩下81英哩(約130公里)，經過將近兩個月的復健，在延長春訓裡表現完美，不僅接連三振好幾名打者，最快球速據稱已經來到90英哩(約145公里)，球隊預計如果一切都許可的話，可望在6月中回大聯盟，與陳偉殷並肩作戰。

桑塔納在大都會兩次以肩傷，手術支出都由原東家負責，只是球員合約在去年就結束，成為自由球員讓外界一度擔心他的生涯可能就此終結，所幸金鶯還是決定給他一個機會，當時直球的最快球速僅80英哩，喜歡他的球迷聽到這消息都心碎了。而他仍不氣餒，在佛州訓練營持續調整，在近日傳來好消息。

29日延長春訓賽桑塔納主投4.1局用76球，投出多達8次三振，沒有任何保送，平均球速大約在86至88英哩之間，招牌武器變速球依舊犀利。金鶯預計讓這位兩屆賽揚獎得主投再投一場，球速限制在85球，接下來便正式進入3A投正式的復健賽，第二場到2A主投，回大聯盟的日子約莫落在18或19日。

面對大投手即將歸隊，金鶯總教練休瓦特(Buck Showalter)仍小心翼翼，不想再出差錯，「理想的話，如果其他的球隊願意合作，桑塔納的最後一次(小聯盟)先發可能會投6局。若這些任務都完成，他就是我們的選擇。這是必經的過程，不論球員是不是能夠勝任，人們都得先評估。」

唯一的變數是桑塔納合約中帶有「逃脫條款」，第一個逃脫日正是在5月底，而以目前來看，即便「山大王」離開球隊的機率不高，不過其他球隊早就密切觀察，只要球員狀態不錯，很可能隨時出手，從金鶯隊將他搶走。如果沒有，桑塔納6月中便會穿著金鶯隊球衣，與陳偉殷並肩作戰。
