金鶯三壘手Manny Machado因為「手滑」甩棒，不服大聯盟判決，決定上訴，不過，大聯盟現在駁回上訴，確定Machado禁賽5場，這星期與遊騎兵的系列賽，Machado僅能充當「場邊啦啦隊」了。

Machado在台灣時間6月9日與運動家進行系列賽中，疑似不滿對方投手在比數大幅領先的情況下，以近身球問候，因此刻意揮空甩棒，將棒子掃出三壘方向。

針對此舉，6月11日大聯盟判罰禁賽5場，Machado隨即提出上訴，而公聽會稍早在巴爾的摩進行。

與大聯盟賽務部資深副總裁Joe Garagiola Jr.晤談一個小時後，聯盟駁回上訴，確定維持原有判決。

此判決即刻生效，意謂這星期與遊騎兵的四連戰系列賽，以及紅襪的系列賽首戰，Machado都無法出賽。

「當時在公聽會，我認為我們有充分的論證辯護，我們盡力了，儘管事與願違，上訴的成功與否，本來就是一半一半的機率，有些事是你不能主宰的，但我想我們做出正確的決定，接下來的事情，我們會好好處理。」Machado在稍早表示。

而Machado的空缺，暫時由原先擔任1壘手的Chris Davis替補，Machado為球隊添了麻煩，感到抱歉：「這是最糟糕的部分，我真的不願意讓球隊面臨這種窘境，特別是接下來5天的硬仗，我不是刻意丟他的，沒有想要傷害誰，也不想爭執，這是很不幸的事，我會去面對。」

這次的甩棒事件，Machado也上了一課，他表示，絕對不會重蹈覆轍：「沒有人願意發生這種事，接下來我會拋之在後，忘了這些不愉快，好好打球。」
