世界盃熱身賽中，西班牙在美國華盛頓2：0艱難擊敗弱旅薩爾瓦多。

比利亞（David Villa）梅開二度，法布雷加斯（Cesc Fabregas）射失點球，布斯克茨（Sergio Busquets）擊中橫樑。

薩爾瓦多是西班牙歷史上交鋒過的第90支球隊，弱旅給世界盃衛冕冠軍製造了很多麻煩，此役也是鬥牛士們連續第4戰半場與對手0-0戰平，也是2010年世界盃後首次遇到。西班牙繼續保持在中立球場友誼賽不敗的紀錄，10勝1平，2013年曾2-2戰平智利。

比利亞還是比利亞，沒有過期，再次成為獲勝英雄，雖然薩爾瓦多堅守了60分鐘，在世界盃首戰之前仍是比利亞帶給西班牙一場勝利。

第60分鐘，阿隆索（Xabi Alonso）接戰術角球長傳禁區，拉莫斯（Sergio Ramos）頭球擺渡，比利亞門前包抄頭球破門，1：0。第87分鐘，席爾瓦（David Silva）右翼挑傳送入禁區，比利亞倚靠後衛停球淩空掃射，梅開二度，2：0。

已確認轉會美國足球大聯盟的比利亞，首次在美國球場進球，賽後他表示：「很高興能出場並進球，我感覺良好。因為天氣的緣故，今天比賽很難打，不過我們已經做好了開啟世界盃之旅的準備。」

西班牙主帥博斯克（Vicente Del Bosque）賽後說：「我們踢得可能是缺少點清晰的思路和進攻效率，尤其是在球門前，不過讓我們滿意的是沒有任何球員受傷。」
