HTC will start marketing its mid-range flagship smartphone, the HTC Desire 820, a TD-LTE/FDD LTE-enabled model, in China on September 26. HTC also accepted pre-sale orders beginning on September 18.
The HTC Desire 820 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 8-core processor, 5.5-inch Super LCD2 touchscreen, 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, 13-megapixel rear camera, and 8-megapixel front camera, priced at CNY1,999 (US$325).
Pre-sale orders for the HTC Desire 820 are expected to top over one million units as did its predecessor, the HTC Desire 816 launched in the first half of 2014, according to an industry estimate. The HTC Desire 816 was available at CNY1,799 when launched.
HTC chairperson Cher Wang said that she is confident about the sale of the HTC Desire 820 in China, and HTC is also looking forward to strengthen its cooperation with China Mobile.
Wang added that HTC's cooperation with China Mobile will not be limited in handset only.
HTC will benefit from its increasing cooperation with China Mobile, the world's largest telecom operator, which also aims to sell over 100 million 4G smartphones in 2014, said industry sources.
China Mobile sold 12 million 4G smartphones in August, up from 6.5 million units sold in the previous month, while sales of 3G models were down to 10 million units from 12 million units during the same period, according to a Chinese-language Liberty Times report.
